Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens
Oliver Twist is young boy in 18th or 19th century, England. After surviving a tough childhood and very tough events in the poorhouse he flees to London. He gets mixed up in really bad things; he gets associated with thiefs and burglars and is taught how to steal. However, he finds good and kind people who take care of him, and then he gets into more trouble. It is, mostly a sad story but it gets happier (in a way) as the story unravels. Dickens portrayal of what is under the nice London surface is considered classic.
I must admit that I really liked the book but parts of it bugged me. Fagin, the thief, is most often referred to as a redheaded Jew, which I find extremely rasist. Dickens casual tone towards abuse - and especially animal abuse - is also very disturbing. There are also characters that I do not like due to the fact that I cannot understand how anyone can be so evil. But Dickens portrayal of feelings such as greed, regret, guilt, sadness and hapiness are capturing, and it is the main reason why I liked this novel. I recommend it to people who are not offended by the language and actions of the time, otherwise it may be difficult to read the book.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Pride and Prejudice deals with the relationship between a rich, proud man and a young, prejudiced woman in the 19th century. The man, Mr. Darcy, first comes off as a very cold and arrogant man, but as he develops feelings for Elisabeth Bennet, a 20-year-old neighbour to his friend, Mr. Bingley, the reader develops warmer feelings toward him. Elisabeth has four sisters, one older sister named Jane and three younger sisters; Mary, Kitty and Lydia. The book also deals with the life of the Bennet family, its relatives and friends. I will not go into much detail about the plot as I don't want to spoil anything.
At times, I found all the names and the plot a bit confusing, and the aged language didn't really help. Though a bit dull at times (very few times may I add), I found the book interesting and I found it really difficult to stop reading. The developing relationship between miss Bennet and Mr. Darcy is fascinating and the same goes for the other relationships in the novel. This will probably go on my list of favourite books and I truly recommend it!
Next book: Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens

P.S. Favourite song right at this moment: "Strangers Like Me" by Phil Collins

P.S.2. Picturing Mathew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy was very helpful in liking the character, he is so hot as Darcy in the Hollywood-version of this book
Starting a new blog. Again.
Hi there!
I know that I've been the worst blogger ever. I've started two blogs, this is my third and I've barely written anything in either of them. So, as I said, this is my third attempt. And, determined to write as often as possible, I've decided to review books and music in this blog. I will read at least one book each week and post my review on Saturdays, and I'll tell you my favourite song of the day. I'll probably share my opnion on fairly recent music (in Sweden) as well.
If anyone cares about my opinion, please feel free to request specific reviews, e.g. recommend a book you think I should read. I've got a few in my bookcase that I've not read yet but I won't say no to a visit to the library ;)
